Flatpack Warehouse’s Design Tips
How to Design your Dream Kitchen
Step 1: Measure your kitchen
First off, you will need to measure your kitchen. Take a tape measure and measure the length, width and height of your kitchen, ignoring all of your existing cabinetry. Note down these measurements on your planning sheet.
Next, take accurate measurements of the location of your fittings (electrical points, plumbing, gas fittings, etc.). To make this easy for you, our planning sheet has four 'walls'. Simply mark the relative distance of the fittings from each point of the wall.
Don’t forget to measure the size and location of all the windows and doors, measured from the outside edge of the architraves.
Step 2: Design your new kitchen layout
With the measurements in place, you can get to the fun part: designing your new kitchen! There are a variety of basic layouts you can choose from: galley, L-shaped, U-shaped or a straight one wall layout. When choosing a layout, keep in mind the shape of the room, the location of your fittings and the ‘work triangle’ principal: you should be able to draw a triangle between the sink, cooktop and fridge.
Think about how you would like to store everything. How would you like your pantry laid out? Would you prefer drawers or doors to access your cupboard space?
If you are having some trouble with this step, give us a call. We are more than happy to help!
Once you have a layout in mind, sketch it onto your planning sheet, noting down dimensions and location.
Step 3: Select benchtops and finishes
Choose a colour scheme that will match your decor from the Gunnersen, Formica or Laminex ranges of laminates, or, for something a bit more special, why not try a granite bench top from Caesarstone or Essa stone.
Finally, pick some door handles from our range to finish off the look.
